What is an RSS Feed?

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" and it IS really simple!

This allows you to automatically be updated on new entries to blogs, news headlines or podcasts! It is easier than checking these sites manually and it sends the information to any and all devices you direct. Which means you can get it at home or on your mobile device!

An RSS document contains either a summary of content from the web site you have chosen to be updated on or the full text. It uses software that is included in the latest version of most web browsers, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari, or can be added as an option to them. There are also other options out there, and a simple search will come up with dozens of them.

Once you have your preferred reader setup you can then subscribe to your page of choice. You can subscribe to a feed by either entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking the RSS link on the site itself in a browser that initiates the subscription process.

The reader regularly checks the feeds you are subscribed to for new content and downloading them into your reader so you are automatically updated on your favorite sites without doing a thing.

There are many readers out there, Here are two of my favorites:

Best Choice: Google Feed Reader
Best Choice for Blackberry or Handheld PDA: Viigo

I personally use both of these, and they are great.

Other Choices:

Outlook (Excellent choice)
Mozilla Firefox
Yahoo Feed Reader
Mobile RSS
AOL Internet Explorer 7
And Many Others!
